Abstract

Digital payment systems have emerged as an essential component of the modern financial ecosystem by facilitating fast, secure, and convenient cashless transactions. The present study examines consumers’ attitudes towards digital payment systems with special reference to Thiruvarur District, Tamil Nadu. The study is based on both primary and secondary data. Primary data were collected from 115 respondents through a structured questionnaire using convenience sampling, while secondary data were gathered from RBI reports, NPCI publications, government documents, books, journals, and websites. Descriptive statistics, Chi-square test, Independent Samples t-test, and One-Way ANOVA were employed for data analysis using SPSS. The findings reveal that UPI is the most preferred digital payment method, and a majority of consumers use digital payments regularly. Respondents expressed positive attitudes regarding ease of use, convenience, time-saving nature, satisfaction, and future intention to continue digital payment usage. The study also found significant associations and differences between socio-economic characteristics and consumers’ attitudes towards digital payment systems. The study concludes that improving digital literacy, cybersecurity awareness, and digital infrastructure can further enhance digital payment adoption and strengthen financial inclusion in Thiruvarur District..
